Q: After reading the introduction chapter to Engaging Cinema, what are your initial thoughts as to studying the subject of film?
A: My thoughts really have not changed that much. I have always known that film was a very complex field of study, but I guess I didn't exactly know just how deep it went. I didn't know just how much influence a director or producer can have on a film. Yes, actors play a major role in the movies, depicting our favorite characters, but in reality, the director is the one behind the scenes telling them how to portray the character. The level of complexity in the art of cinema has exponentially risen in my opinion after reading this introduction chapter.
Q:Are movies a social danger or a social benefit?
A: This question is all a matter of perspective. In my eyes, they aren't a danger, but it might be different in other people's eyes. This could be with how you interpret movies and whether or not you deem the actions realistic or not. I know that I'm not able to jump off a bridge and survive like James Bond, but that doesn't mean someone else thinks the same thing. Movies always have an effect on someone. In my mind it all depends on how a person interprets movies.
I agree that only certain people won't be able to recognize reality in most movies and this is where the danger comes in I think. Most people will be able to understand that it's a movie, it most likely won't happen in real life

ReplyDeleteI like how you talked about the impact that directors have on the film, most people just look at the actors performance and don't realize who put them in that roll. That has to be a very tough thing to do as a director, picking actors that are fit into a roll and being able to work with such precision, it's a true talent that they don't get enough credit for.
