Q: In our book, Nichols writes, " When persuasion regarding a particular issue is the goal, reason is a very valuable tool. Reason or logic carries a discussion from premises through well-reasoned arguments to a conclusion. However, often there is no clear-cut solution to a real life problem, and logic alone cannot persuade." What is your interpretation of this statement?
A: I believe that logic and reasoning can carry most of the load when it comes to persuasion, but as said in the question, it cannot be the only factor on making a well informed decision. I think to persuade a reasonable person fully, you need factual evidence to back up your side of the argument, whatever that may be. This means sometimes, you cannot rely solely on reason and logic.

Q: After reading the introduction chapter to Engaging Cinema, what are your initial thoughts as to studying the subject of film?
A: My thoughts really have not changed that much. I have always known that film was a very complex field of study, but I guess I didn't exactly know just how deep it went. I didn't know just how much influence a director or producer can have on a film. Yes, actors play a major role in the movies, depicting our favorite characters, but in reality, the director is the one behind the scenes telling them how to portray the character. The level of complexity in the art of cinema has exponentially risen in my opinion after reading this introduction chapter.
Q:Are movies a social danger or a social benefit?
A: This question is all a matter of perspective. In my eyes, they aren't a danger, but it might be different in other people's eyes. This could be with how you interpret movies and whether or not you deem the actions realistic or not. I know that I'm not able to jump off a bridge and survive like James Bond, but that doesn't mean someone else thinks the same thing. Movies always have an effect on someone. In my mind it all depends on how a person interprets movies.

What are your thoughts on the class History Through Film? What do you hope to get out of this class and what strength do you bring to the class that will help us all progress as we learn?
I am very excited to take this class. I may have not started off very strong missing the first assignment but I really plan of bringing everything I have to this class and learning all I can in here. I really enjoy history and I think this class will help me learn more about history and learn more about my passion, movies, in the process. I hope I am able to learn from the classics on how to make the best film. I figured this class would help me gain better story telling skills in movies.
In this class I can bring an extensive knowledge of both history and films, so that I may help the class learn through my prior knowledge. If anybody has a question about a movie I can most likely help them out. I feel as though I could be very beneficial to this class and look forward to seeing if that is true or not.
